What every Alaska church should know about engaging politics

Many pastors across Alaska and around the country are uncertain when it comes to their legal rights to discuss politics and educate their members on critical political issues. As a result, a number of churches remain silent in the political sphere.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is working to put an end to this uncertainty with an upcoming webcast addressing exactly what a church can and cannot do during the 2020 election season. The ADF is a group of attorneys that defends religious liberty cases across the country. On March 12, from 1-2 p.m. EST, ADF attorney Ryan Tucker will give a one-hour presentation on “the top five things” every church in America needs to know heading into the 2020 elections.

Tucker oversees ADF efforts to maintain and defend the constitutionally protected freedom of churches, Christian ministries and religious schools.

His upcoming webcast will address the following issues:

    • Sermons and Speech: candidates, legislation and issues
    • General Education of Voters: registration, identification and voter guides
    • Use of Church Facilities: polling places, candidate meetings and literature distribution
    • Lobbying: direct and grassroots
    • Financial Support: political organizations, candidates, referendums and initiatives
