Anchorage ‘Pride Fest’ recruiting 13-year-old drag dancers

Arrangements for the annual public promotion of all things LGBTQ in Anchorage is underway. Anchorage Pride Week will be held June 20-27 across multiple venues, culminating in a parade and festival at Delany Park Strip on June 27.

Planning for the event is spearheaded by Identity, Inc., a local activist group that helps organize Drag Queen Story Hour events for young children at the Loussac Library.

Identity promotes providing powerful hormones to Alaska children who identify as the opposite sex to prevent them from going through the normal process of puberty.

According to Identity’s website, the group is planning several events that target Alaska teens during Pride Week. This includes an LGBTQ youth variety show which invites dancers and drag performers as young as 13 years old to prance on stage before an audience.

Youth, ages 13-19 years, are also being recruited to march at the start of the parade in downtown Anchorage, where they will carry a large rainbow flag.

Identity’s website says parade organizers are expecting 50 groups and 500 people to participate in the June 27 parade which includes business representatives from Continental Subaru, Alaska Airlines, Smirnoff, Fred Meyer, BP and others.
