Alaska Governor’s Prayer Breakfast cancelled

The Alaska Governor’s Prayer Breakfast (AK-GPB)has been canceled due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus. It had been scheduled for March 28 in Anchorage.

J.D. Duncan, president of AK-GPB, said the event was halted by Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz in response to health concerns.

“We have decided to not reschedule for 2020,” Duncan said on the group’s website. “Check back for info on the process of refunding tickets. Thanks for all the prayer and support of this great event. Keep praying for our leaders, all the more as they deal with this current issue.”

The Governor’s Prayer Breakfast began in 1983 with the belief that Alaskan’s would take time to pray for state leaders. Since then, the event has grown to where it is regularly attended by Alaskans who seek God’s guidance and protection for those fellow citizens who have been chosen to help lead the state.

According to the group’s website, the non-partisan organization is guided by a board of 14 Alaskans who believe “God directs the affairs of Man and is the ultimate authority over human events.”
