Governor invites Alaskans to ask COVID questions in virtual town halls

Alaskans are invited to ask questions during a series of virtual town hall events with Gov. Mike Dunleavy and other state officials. The first meeting was on May 21 with the next planned for May 26.

The goal is to discuss Alaska’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the reopening plan and other topics of concern to residents. The governor will be joined by public health officials and members of his cabinet in the various online events.

“My team and I know the immense impact this virus has had on Alaskans’ lives – some have lost jobs or shut the doors to their businesses, others have had to adapt to new virtual ways of conducting everyday business such as schooling, work, and visiting loved ones,” Dunleavy said in announcing the town halls. “I would like to take this opportunity to speak directly with Alaskans, to answer any outstanding questions, and to offer some insight as to where Alaska is headed in the coming days, weeks, and months ahead.”

The governor will participate in two of the next four scheduled town halls. The May 26 event will include a panel consisting of state health commissioner Adam Crum, chief medical officer Anne Zink and other public health officials to discuss questions about COVID-19 health data and the science of coronavirus. Dunleavy will be on hand for the May 28 and June 2 dates.
