    Private citizens organize July 4th celebrations across Alaska

    While towns across Alaska have cancelled government-sponsored 4th of July celebrations, several communities are holding citizen-organized celebrations of Independence Day. Below is a rundown of what’s happening. If you know of others, send us the information.

    ‘FREEDOM FESTIVAL’ IN PALMER

    • July 3-4 (10 a.m.-7 p.m. each day)
    • Location: MTA Events Center in Palmer
    • Events include booths, food trucks, downtown parade and contests (July 4th at 11 a.m.)

    ‘CELEBRATE FREEDOM’ IN JUNEAU

    • July 4 parade at 11 a.m.
    • Parade route: Starts at Nugget Mall and continues down Old Dairy Rd.

    ANCHORAGE VEHICLE PARADE

    • July 4 vehicle parade at 11 a.m.
    • Gathering starts at the Loussac Library.
    • Decorate your vehicle to celebrate Independence Day

    PARADE IN HOMER

    • July 4 parade at 3:15 p.m.
    • Parade route: Starts at Soundview Ave and goes to the end of the Spit
