Deadline nears to request absentee ballot for Alaska primary election

    AlaskaWatchman.com

Alaskans who wish to cast an absentee ballot in the Aug. 18 primary election have until Aug. 8 to make the request. Any registered voter may ask for an absentee ballot for any reason.

When making the request, it is important to select “All in Calendar Year” to ensure that you request a ballot for both the Aug. 18 primary as well as the Nov. 3 general election. Those who wish to vote on the Republican primary must specifically ask for the Alaska Republican Party ballot.

Unlike general vote-by-mail proposals, which are highly controversial due to widespread fraud concerns, absentee ballots safeguard voter integrity by requiring voters to proactively request ballots. This avoids the danger of sending ballots to residents who have died or moved out of state, which can lead to unsecured ballots at post offices or garbage cans.

Voters can begin casting absentee ballots on Aug. 3.

Click here to request the absentee ballot online. For more information, call the Division of Elections at (907) 270-2700 or (877) 375-6508 (toll free), or email akabsentee@alaska.gov.
